USGS Quail Breeding Building at the Patuxent Research Refuge

Full construction from foundation to roof of a metal structure at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Laurel, MD. The building replaces an existing structure that is no longer serviceable for the science that was ongoing. The Quail Breeding Building's primary use is for feed testing and quality control as part of the endangered species research program. The project included:

  • New concrete foundation with sloped floors with drainage
  • Steel structure
  • Electrical service with independent metering
  • HVAC and exhaust systems

FDIC Headquarters Pantries Renovation Project

Project consists of a phased renovation of eight pantries located at FDIC Headquarters in Washington, DC. The project requires full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems layout. Some of the key features to the new pantries include high-end appliances, hands-free fixtures, soft close hardware, Geos recycled glass surfaces, custom painted glass backsplashes, and Fabricmate tackboards.

FDIC Virginia Square Projects

MK Development works in conjunction with the FDIC to deliver several projects at 5 buildings Arlington, VA - FDIC Virginia Square Location. We offer express services as well as small-to mid-level project execution. Some of the projects we have completed include:

  • Legal Office Space Renovation: Evening shift project for the complete reconfiguration and renovation of the FDIC Legal Department file room areas. The project took place in an occupied office space and required MK Development to complete the project in two separate phases to accommodate FDIC personnel and property moves.
  • Level Loading Dock Corridor Upgrades: Installed wall protections, door armor plates, corner guards, and new paint finish to upgrade the P1 Level loading dock.
  • Elevator Lobby Renovations: Full finish renovation at two 7 story buildings at the elevator lobbies. Project included trim carpentry work upgrades, elevator door refinishing, and new wall finishes. The work involved was performed in away to avoid any impact to standard building operations.
  • Auditorium Stage: Evening shift project for the complete reconfiguration and renovation of the FDIC Legal Department file room areas. The project took place in an occupied office space and required MK Development to complete the project in two separate phases to accommodate FDIC personnel and property moves.
  • Starbucks and Cafeteria Service Storage Areas Code Renovations: Concession vendor storage areas were brought up to local jurisdiction code with new impervious flooring, Korogard® Wall Protection System, and paint.

City of Gaithersburg Water Park Renovations Project

The City of Gaithersburg Water Park Renovations Project included interior and exterior renovations, repairs, and ADA upgrades to various sections of the Administrative Building, lockers, and concession areas. Key features to the project are as follows:

  • Full renovations of ticketing office including new ticketing windows and Corian® solid surface counters
  • Renovations to multipurpose room and administrative offices
  • Lighting upgrades
  • ADA upgrades to locker rooms and restrooms
  • Renovation of concession area
  • Reconstruction of gable archways that included new pressure treated framing with an EIFS System
  • Wayfinding upgrades
  • Stanchion system installation
  • Bicycle rack relocation

Northern Virginia Community College Projects

MK Development has performed various small projects for Northern Virginia Community College System. MK Development performed classroom layout reconfiguration at the Loudoun Campus LD Building Music Lab to accommodate new sound booths. The work included door relocation, new acoustical ceilings, wall treatment matching, lighting relocation, HVAC upgrades, and fire alarm autocall system connections.

State Highway

Structural and aesthetic improvements to the administration's Wooden Storage Building at the La Plata, MD Facility. Improvements included demolition of a mezzanine area, new keyed joint concrete slab, asphalt pavement, safety bollards, structural reinforcement to wooden structure members, gutters and paint. All work was completed to strict SHA specifications and guidelines within budget and schedule limitations. No modifications were issued to the project.

Procon Consulting Headquarters

Fit out of 2,500 square feet office suite including construction to ANSI and ADA standards. The new suite includes a glass storefront enclosed conference room with new audio visual components, four private offices, kitchenette with custom p-lam millwork, a ventilated and cooled IT server room, and new furniture. MK Development's design and construction services included:

  • Interior design and space planning
  • Structural, HVAC, and electrical design
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Demolition and strip-out
  • Efficiency improvements
